Over 30 years of excellence.

Founded in 1974, Carl's Darkroom is among the premier E-6 processing labs in the country and is one of a diminishing number of labs that still runs E-6 daily. We specialize in E-6 processing and slide duplication. As professional labs across the nation are closing or discontinuing their traditional wet processes, we remain committed to film and intend to continue providing these services.

We pride ourselves on our customer service as much as our quality. Our employees are friendly and helpful as well as experienced. (Several of us have been here over 18 years.) We strive to provide the same individualized attention to our mail-order customers as we have given our local clients for years.

Consistency is the keyword in E-6 processing and is the basis of our success. You can depend on the fact that you will get the same results from film processed next week as you did today. Our E-6 processing is done in a continuously monitored Refrema dip and dunk machine, providing you with clean transparencies of unrivaled quality. We monitor our chemicals meticulously and run a minimum of 4 control strips daily to ensure the most consistent results possible.

Highest Quality Services

  • We make exceptionally good duplicate slides from your 35mm slides and can also reduce your 120 or 4x5 transparencies to 35mm slides.
  • We use Kodak E-Dupe film and can accommodate nearly any cropping, masking and color/density correction needs.
  • In addition, we make high quality large format duplicate transparencies from your 4x5 or 8x10 transparencies.
  • And here’s what our customers say:

I've been sending my E-6 film to Carl's Darkroom for the last 15 years and the consistent quality and great customer service keeps me coming back year after year.

I have been a customer of Carl's Darkroom for over 20 years. I travel quite a bit and I have used many photo labs; Carl's Darkroom has proved itself to be the most consistently professional and customer friendly lab I have used.

Film recording demands absolute stability in processing. Carl's Darkroom has provided that stability year after year, giving us the ability to calibrate multiple film recorders to the same precise color balance, and provide customers with the highest quality film. Carl's and it's staff are the key to our quality.
--Charlie Dodge, Gamma Tech (Service Bureau)

I've been shooting film for over twenty-five years. It's important to me that my film looks rich, saturated and flawless. Carl's Darkroom cares about my film and I can count on them for consistency. Often I am out on the road and ship film to them to clip and judge and run balances. I trust the owner, Gail, to do this for me and she gives my business care to perfection. My color is very pretty through her processor. Her crew is caring and considerate and take pride in all they do for everyone's photography, be it professional or family snaps. This is my color lab and I'm proud of the work they do for me.

Hi there! I just received back my first batch of slide film recently developed by your company. All I can say is THANK YOU! I am very very pleased with the quality that I got back...especially when these were rolls of film that were forgotten in the drawer for several years. Wow! Wow! Wow! I\'m ready to chuck my digital and go back to film now that I know I have a talented, affordable, AND fast-working developing company to turn to. You folks made my day today. Thank you!

    Gail,
I just wanted to say thank you for 17 years of fabulous service. The quality of your E6 processing line always surpassed that available to me in Chicago. Carl’s line was dependable and incredibly stable over the years, allowing me to fine tune my photography to a very high degree. Your willingness to accommodate my schedule was instrumental in my success, enabling me to run a studio in New Mexico while serving demanding clients across the country.
Please feel free to call upon me if you ever need a recommendation for Carl’s Darkroom, or to attest to the quality of your line and professionalism of your service.
It has truly been a pleasure working with you all these years.

    Dear Customers of Carl’s Darkroom,
I am a long time client of Carl’s Darkroom whose unmatched service is equivalent to the best labs I’ve used domestically and abroad. I know because I have traveled internationally doing architectural and hospitality photography. Gail Miller and her staff have maintained one of the finest film processing labs in the country and have been essential partners to the success of my business.
Carl’s Darkroom provides reliable, high quality film processing day after day, client after client. Gail is committed to earning the trust of each and every photographer who relies on her lab to process their valuable film. Just recently, I scanned a transparency that had been shot for the cover of the book Santa Fe Style. The 4x5 film looked as good as the day I picked it up at Carl’s Darkroom – 23 years ago.
